Ohlook will begin a new chapter when it opens a true school this fall. We've have been asked by our students and parents for years to turn Ohlook into a real school and we finally have decided it is time!
Ohlook Performing Arts School (or OPAS) will be available for Middle and High School students, grades 6 through 12. Mornings will be spent in academics, using Texas Tech University Independent School District's curriculum and afternoons will be used for Fine Arts studies.
In the 7 years that Ohlook has been in existence we have seen so many of our students and friends that don't feel like they fit into their school environments, yet the options for a school that meets their needs academically, socially and creatively have been limited. At Ohlook our goal is to provide such a place.
How is OPAS different?
AUDITIONS There is no audition to attend our school. Anyone that has a desire to learn and excel in academics as well as the fine arts is welcome with open arms. Ohlook has always been a place of inclusion not exclusion.
REPUTATION We already have an outstanding reputation of graduating students that have been accepted into some of the country's most prestigious fine arts universities and they have only attended our after school programs. We are excited to see how our new graduates will excel and perform with a full year long program to help them prepare. Click here to see our list of Ohlook Grads.
ACADEMICS We know that all students learn differently, that's why our students will be allowed to work at their own pace and create their own academic schedule. Students will choose the academic courses they wish to take (in accordance with TTUISD and Texas guidelines) and will then make a schedule for themselves. Students who stay "on pace" will only attend the academic portion of the school Monday through Thursdays 9:00 to 1:00. Fridays are reserved for special workshops and for students that are behind academically. Students work independently with proctors and tutors available to help them when they need it. We believe that this kind of environment allows students to work and learn in a way that works for them and also encourages independent behavior necessary for succeeding in a college and work environment. FINE ARTS Ohlook's fine arts programs are second to none. We will put our fine arts instructors up against any other instructors in the state! All of our instructors are professionals or former professionals in their field and have had great success in preparing students for college. Not only will we have our regular instructors working with our students daily but we also bring in professionals and well known instructors to do special workshops with our students through out the year. PROFESSIONAL CONNECTION Ohlook has the distinct honor of being affiliated with "The 3 Redneck Tenors". Founders of Ohlook, Matthew & Jill Lord, are also the creators of "The 3 Redneck Tenors", a professional musical theatre show that tours the country and has been seen on television and Las Vegas. As opportunities for The 3RNT's happen that also creates opportunities for our students. In the past our students have been on stage with them in several venues in addition to being able to work with the Tenors whenever they are in town.
PRICING Ohlook is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and at Ohlook we have truly put the NON in non-profit! But seriously, we do pride ourselves that we try to only charge what is necessary to cover our costs and keep our doors open. We believe that the fine arts should be accessible to anyone, not just the privileged! Therefore, our tuition is far below what other schools are charging and we believe you get beyond your money's worth with our instructors, workshops and field trips!
