OPAS will be using Texas Tech University Independent School District's Curriculum. Our director has been using this curriculum for the past 3 years with her children at home and has found it to be not only accelerated and challenging academically but also appealing to their creative side.
TTUISD is accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and is written to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). They also offer Credit by Exminations (CBEs) to allow students to test out of subjects as well as dual-credit courses to earn high school and college level credit by taking freshman and/or sophomore level college courses which is far more desired by colleges than the AP courses being touted in public schools.
In a 2007 study TTUISD Graduates performed over 100 points above the National Average on the SATs and almost 200 points better than the Texas Average.
High School Students may choose between a Minimum Graduation Plan and a Recommended Graduation Plan (College Preparatory Program). Students who successfully complete high school requirements and pass the exit-level TAKs will earn an accredited Texas high school diploma.
All students will be assigned a teacher through TTUISD. This is a teacher they can correspond wtih for specific questions about the curriculum or lessons. Unit Tests and Projects will be sent in (either electronically or by mail) to this assigned TTUISD instructor for grading. Ohlook will provide proctor's through out the day and week to monitor the students in their work, answer questions and oversee the classroom environment.
OPAS students must be self-motivated and willing to work. Students work at their own pace and in their own way. For example, some students may choose to do an entire day of Math or English, or split it up between different days. Each week students will have a set goal acadmically to keep them "on pace". As long as students stay on pace they are allowed to work in any way they desire.
For student's who are "on pace" school hours will be Monday thru Thursday 9:00 - 1:00. Student's who have not met their goal will be required to attend Friday school in order to meet their goal and keep them on pace. At OPAS it is our desire that students have little or no homework. All academics should be able to be accomplished during the academic time allotted.
Ohlook is a 501(c)3 organization located at 316 S. Barton St., Grapevine, TX 817-421-2825
